Avril Charlton is a Hypnotherapist and NLP Coach Practitioner based in South Lakeland, close to the Lancashire - Cumbria border.

 

Avril trained at the ISIS school in Brighton and was awarded a Diploma in Integrated Hypnotherapy. She is registered with the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council and the Hypnotherapy Register working to their code of ethics.

 

Hypnotherapy is an enjoyable, gentle way of helping you make positive changes in your life. It works by engaging your unconscious mind, which looks after your instincts, memories, automatic responses and habits. Your unconscious mind is responsible for reward and survival, making sure you respond quickly without conscious thought to protect yourself. This protective function is essential and very useful as we don’t have to relearn everything - helpful when you learn to drive or ride a bike, but not so good when it’s a habit you want to change. Unconscious responses such as comfort eating or smoking, as a reaction to stress, are the kind of habitual response we would often like to change. A conscious decision is often not enough so we need to address the unconscious mind. Hypnotherapy can encourage a trance-like state where that becomes possible and new behaviours can be suggested, visualised, practised and eventually replace the old, unwanted ones.

 

This approach can help with many issues such as weight control, smoking, confidence, sports performance, sleep, relaxation and stress.
