About Avril
Avril Charlton is a Hypnotherapist and NLP Coach Practitioner based in South Lakeland, close to the Lancashire - Cumbria border.
Avril trained at the ISIS school in Brighton and was awarded a Diploma in Integrated Hypnotherapy. She is registered with the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council and the Hypnotherapy Register working to their code of ethics. She has also completed a training course in Sports Hypnosis at the UK College of Cognitive & Behavioural Therapies.
Avril believes people have the capacity to change and develop throughout their lives. At 37 Avril graduated from the Open University with a First Class Honours degree which included modules in Education, Psychology and Social Science. After many years in the library service she changed her career through volunteering and went on to become a Family Support Worker for a city centre Sure Start. During this time she received on-going training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy which she found to be helpful to families who were experiencing difficulties. She trained in 'Positive Parenting' techniques and facilitated several groups. After completing a course in volunteer management Avril went on to manage a scheme where she recruited and trained parents to support other families.
Avril continues to apply solution focused techniques in her own life and to support others. She took up mountain biking at 35, rock climbing at 45 and began running at 48- completing the London Marathon at 49. She was attracted to the positive focus of Hypnotherapy and NLP with the emphasis on change and moving forwards, and decided to train as a Hypnotherapist, setting up her own practice in 2010.
