Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is an enjoyable, gentle way of helping you make positive changes in your life. It works by engaging your unconscious mind, which looks after your instincts, memories, automatic responses and habits.

Your unconscious mind is responsible for reward and survival, making sure you respond quickly without conscious thought to protect yourself. This protective function is essential and very useful as we don’t have to relearn everything - helpful when you learn to drive or ride a bike, but not so good when it’s a habit you want to change. Unconscious responses such as comfort eating or smoking, as a reaction to stress, are the kind of habits we would often like to change. Sometimes a conscious decision alone is not enough so we need to address the unconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy can encourage a trance-like state where that becomes possible and new behaviours can be suggested, visualised, practised and eventually replace the old, unwanted ones.

This approach can help with many issues such as weight control, smoking, confidence, sports performance, sleep, relaxation and stress.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP is an approach that uses a wide range of techniques to increase confidence, change unwanted behaviours and look at situations from different perspectives. It can help you understand how other people view the world, leading to more rewarding relationships and effective communication skills. NLP compliments Hypnotherapy in several ways by helping you focus on your personal, desired outcomes and develop an understanding of what is important and of value in your life.

Positive and Solution Focused

Both these approaches help you develop an awareness of your own strengths and resources. Problems are recognised and acknowledged but the emphasis is on moving away from the problem and towards a solution. Throughout our lives events happen which we are unable to control; life is not without risk. What is important is how we deal with these things. NLP and Hypnotherapy can enable us to respond in resourceful ways and choose how we respond and react to people, events and situations.
